OBA Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation - Call for 2014 Nominations

About the Award

The OBA Award for Excellence in Civil Litigation was created by the Executive of the Civil Litigation Section to recognize contributions and/or achievements by members of the Ontario Bar Association.

Criteria for Selection

The award should recognize one or more of the following attributes:

  • the recipient’s proven outstanding skills in oral and written advocacy;
  • the recipient’s contribution to legal education;
  • the recipient’s contribution to the community through pro bono work and other projects or initiatives;
  • the recipient’s leadership in the Civil Litigation Bar through sharing knowledge, experience, skill, commitment, by acting as a role model to the younger members of the profession as well as to his/her peers at the civil litigation bar;
  • the recipient’s contributions to the development of civil litigation related policies, procedures, practice and legislation.

Eligibility

All OBA members who are practicing lawyers in Ontario but not including current members of the Executive of Civil Litigation Section or Board of Directors of the OBA.

Presentation

The award will be presented at an annual gala dinner hosted by the Civil Litigation Section, held on October 16th, 2014 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

Nomination Procedure

Any member of the Civil Litigation Section of OBA in good standing is eligible to nominate a candidate by submission in writing, together with a curriculum vita outlining the nominee’s qualifications (if required by the Committee).  Unless required by the Committee, the nominator is not required to advise (or obtain the consent of) the nominee of the nomination prior to the nomination deadline – Friday, March 14, 2014.

Decision

The Committee shall choose the recipient of the Award from the candidates submitted through the Nomination process.
