LAO Announces Changes to Panel Lawyer’s Annual Self-Reporting Requirement

The Ontario Bar Association congratulates OBA Treasurer Ranjan Agarwal for receiving the South Asian Bar Association Toronto’s 2019 President’s Award.

On July 7, 2019, LAO implemented service changes across the province in order to align our operations to our provincial funding allocation for 2019. A principle we followed as part of this process was to monitor and adapt services as required. We have now determined that there is capacity to provide some additional family duty counsel services.

The Family Law Limited Legal Service Scope project is the result of an unprecedented collaborative effort of the Ontario family justice community.

Please note that the OBA office will be closed as of 1 p.m. on Friday, October 11th, and on Monday, October 14th.  We look forward to returning to full member service the following Tuesday.

Please note changes to the Family Law Rules, regarding experts and the child party, have been approved by the Attorney General. The changes will come into effect on September 1, 2019.

Members of the Ontario Bar Association are once again stepping up to help the next generation of lawyers. The OBA has launched a new Robe Bank program that will match people who want to donate or lend their robes with new lawyers who need them across all judicial regions of Ontario.

Voting for the 2019 Law Society of Ontario Bencher Election is now open. Lawyers elected to Convocation will be in a position to influence governance, regulation and the provision of legal services to the public for the next four years, so it's critical to consider how candidates will effectively serve in the role when it comes to tackling the most pressing issues.
