Attorney General John Gerretsen reiterated Wednesday outside cabinet he has only just received the Ontario Bar Association's report obtained by QP Briefing[1] on the need for firmer guidelines for judicial mediation in the province.

Ontario needs firmer rules surrounding how the judiciary are used to settle difficult to mediate cases before trial, a recent Ontario Bar Association report obtained by QP Briefing says.

Robert Shawyer, a family lawyer who chairs the Ontario Bar Association’s sole, small firm, and general practice section, says the difficulty in earning a living from legal aid matters is a big reason for that last statistic.
