Brampton Lawyer Named President of the Ontario Bar Association

Local lawyer, Ed Upenieks, is the new president of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA). As a civil litigator and managing partner at Lawrences Lawyers in Brampton for more than 19 years, Upenieks will bring great experience and a valuable regional perspective to the more than 16,000-member association.

OBA Member Wins National Award

OBA member Douglas Judson has received the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) 2015 Edward K. Rowan-Legg Award at the CBA Legal Conference in Calgary. The award recognizes a student member's outstanding contribution to the CBA.

E-Commerce Act - Coming into Force

On July 1, 2015, provisions of the 2014 Provincial Budget will come into force, which amend the Electronic Commerce Act (“ECA”) to apply to documents, including agreements of purchase and sale, that create or transfer interests in land and require registration to be effective against third parties. Note that as of July 1, 2015, the ECA would apply to such documents, even if they were created before that date. The proclamation and related provisions are attached below for your reference
