Who is Kaitlin Soye?

Hi! I’m Kaitlin, I’m a member at large on the OBA IP/IT Section Executive. I am a partner in the intellectual property group at Aird & Berlis in Toronto.

Why did you choose IP/IT and what would you tell a young lawyer entering the IT/IP field?

Prior to law school, I was a biomedical science researcher investigating antiviral effects of vitamins on respiratory infections. As I started practicing law, I wanted to bridge the gap between innovation and the law. That pointed me in the direction of intellectual property law. To that end, I would encourage junior members of the bar to embrace their pre-law experiences to add perspective and insight to their emerging legal practice.

What does the “regular, non-lawyer” you, like to do?

I enjoy getting out of the city to explore the green spaces in Southern Ontario. The Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail provide beautiful spaces for hiking and biking. Less frequent, but still very enjoyable, I like to get away for hiking, skiing and surfing abroad.
