Articling Student for Criminal Defence Law Firm (July/August 2024 – May/June 2025)
Job Responsibilities:
Attend at courts in the Greater Toronto Area for court appearances (virtual and in-person if required)
Meet with clients both in and out of jail to conduct client interviews
Prepare disclosure review memos
Conduct legal research and conduct crown pre-trials
Prepare pleadings – applications, charter motions and factums
Job Requirements:
Ability to function in a high volume, fast-paced criminal defence environment
Ability to manage stress effectively
Ability to think fast and negotiate effectively
Ability to devise creative responses to clients' legal problems
Have a thorough understanding of evidence and criminal law
Caring and helpful communicator with clear and articulate communication skills (oral & written)
Driver's license and automobile
Other Requirements:
A demonstrated interest in Criminal law
A willingness to work outside normal business hours, which may include evenings and weekends based on operational needs.
Knowledge of a second language is an asset
