Tips for Lawyers Delegating to Articling Students

For Ontario’s soon-to-be 2019 calls, the 10-month articling term (and all of its highs and lows) is approaching its end. After a year rife with what seemed like unsurpassable challenges, many are looking forward to the sigh of relief and celebrations that will surely ensue. 

However, the close of one door marks the opening of another: just like that, the transition from student to lawyer begins. New lawyers will experience many changes during this time, but one of the most difficult is often the switch from delegatee to delegator. To ease this transition, articling students, as current delegatees, have offered to share their insights with respect to what makes a good delegator:
