On February 20, 2020, Jaime Cardy, editor of the Privacy and Access to Information Law Section, sat down to interview Brian Beamish, the information and privacy commissioner of Ontario. They discussed his career, achievements as commissioner, and upcoming plans for retirement.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF:

Starting with the basics: What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Brian Beamish and I was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario.

What and where did you study before going to law school?

I went to Wilfrid Laurier University where I studied English and History.

Where did you go to law school and why or how did you choose that school?

I attended law school at the University of Toronto. I chose U of T because, having lived in Peterborough and Waterloo, the thought of living in downtown Toronto was particularly appealing.
