On October 15, 2024, the OBA Trusts and Estates Law Section proudly honoured deserving and distinguished honoree, Kimberly A. Whaley, presenting her with this year’s Award of Excellence. The Grand Banking Hall at 1 King West was turned into a beautiful purple in celebrating the achievements of Kim and five other outstanding leaders of the bar.

On September 4, 2024, the OBA Conference Centre was buzzing for “A Night at the Movies”, OBA’s annual film festival social. Featuring time with friends and colleagues, a Hollywood photobooth, delicious food and drinks, a show-biz panel and feature film in the OBA Theatre Lounge.

On August 14, 2024, OBA celebrates those in the legal profession forging ahead on new and exiting paths. Esteemed members of the bar, peers and mentors came together to offer toasts and congratulations to spectacular careers in transition and pay tribute to legal careers of long and lasting impact. This included past presidents of the OBA who have become judges, as well as lawyers who are celebrating 50+ years in the profession.

On May 16, 2024, the OBA’s Young Lawyer’s Central Division hosted its annual Young Lawyers Gala, bringing together a hundred of next generation of legal leaders and influencers in the practice and business of law in Ontario. It was a heart touching evening with keynote address from The Honourable Mahmud Jamal, and acceptance speech from our Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers Award recipient, Sahil Shoor.

On May 8, 2024, OBA Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law Section proudly presented the Rising Star Award to three of our award winners, Veronica Tsou (2022), Lisa Danay Wallace (2023) and Tamara Celine Winegust (2024). We are glad to host this inaugural award ceremony at the OBA Conference Centre.

On February 26, 2024, OBA celebrates the Black History Month in partnering with CABL as we pay tribute to the contribution of Black lawyers in Canada. The night was elevated by the great jerk food, transcendent musical beats, carnival costumes, and everyone’s laughter.
