Do you want to speak at the 2016 Annual Update on Human Rights?

Are you passionate about human rights law? Do you want to raise your profile by speaking at the OBA?

We are looking for expressions of interest from human rights practitioners to present papers at our upcoming Annual Update on Human Rights professional development event, hosted by the Constitutional, Civil Liberties & Human Rights, Administrative Law and Labour & Employment Law sections.

We are interested in assembling a diverse group of speakers to present at the conference. As such, we encourage submissions from members of equality-seeking groups.

Topics should focus on practical approaches to dealing with discrimination and harassment, remedies, substantive legal developments and practice/procedural developments at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Canadian Human Rights Commission and Tribunal.

Some examples include:

  • substantive developments in human rights law and practice;
  • procedural considerations in human rights litigation;
  • human rights law in the courts, including appellate review;
  • damages and other remedies;
  • human rights policies and compliance considerations; and
  • ethical or professionalism challenges.

Expressions of interest are due by 5:00pm on Monday, December 14, 2015.  Your expression of interest should be no longer than 500 words, and should include three proposed topics. Please also provide a short biography. Please direct your expression of interest and any inquiries to Kathryn Bird at kathryn-bird@hicksmorley.com.

Selections will be made from the submissions received prior to the above-noted due date. Submissions received after this time will not be eligible for consideration. Selected presenters will be contacted by January 31, 2016. Each selected presenters is required to submit a substantive paper by no later than May 9, 2016.
