Ontario Bar Association President’s Award to be given April 24

Chief Justice Annemarie Bonkalo of Ontario Court of Justice, Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario (AJEFO), among those to be honoured at gala

TORONTO --  The Hon. Annemarie Bonkalo, Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice, and l’AJEFO, l’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario, will be honoured as recipients of the Ontario Bar Association’s President’s Award.

It happens April 24, 2014 starting at 6 pm at the OBA Annual Awards Gala at the InterContinental Toronto Centre.

The awards are given to members of the legal profession who have made exceptional contributions to the practice of law in Ontario and to the Ontario Bar Association.

Bonkalo has been Chief Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice since 2007, the first woman appointed to this position.

L’AJEFO represents French-speaking lawyers, judges, law students, people working in the administration of justice, and others who work to promote access to justice in both French and English.

Other awards and honourees include:

  • OBA’s Award for Distinguished Service: Ian D. Kirby of Gilbert Kirby Stringer LLP, Paul D. Paton of the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, and lawyer Maryellen Symons;
  • OBA’s Linda Adlam Manning Award: Lucy K. McSweeney of the Office of The Children’s Lawyer;
  • OBA’s Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers’ Award: Fareen L. Jamal of Jamal Family Law Professional Corporation;
  • Mundell Medal for Legal Writing: Professor Jim Phillips of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.
