Rule Changes for the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario

  • May 16, 2016

Please note, two changes to the rules of procedure for the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) came into effect on May 10, 2016. They are:

  •          Rule 9.3, applicants to the HRTO now have 21 days to file a Reply to a Response. Previously they only had 14 days.
  •          Rule 8.2.1, respondents no longer need to file a full response to request deferral of an application when the issues in dispute are the subject of an ongoing grievance or arbitration proceeding. Instead, they can provide a copy of the grievance and tell the tribunal why they think the application should be deferred
