Ontario Passes Law to Protect Freedom of Expression

The Ontario Legislature overwhelming supported the passage of Bill 52, The Protection of Public Participation Act, 2015. 

The OBA strongly supports the legislation that specifically combats SLAPPs (Strategic Litigation Against Public Participation). The Act works  to ensure citizens should have some measure of protection from civil liability for engaging in public participation. 

The new act will become law in Ontario upon Royal Assent.
