Calls for ‘non-discrimination requirement’ for all current and future law programs
The issue of accreditation of Trinity Western University’s proposed law school is examined in a story by writer Charlotte Santry in the current issue of the Law Times.
Students attending Trinity Western University in British Columbia, the story says, must sign a covenant declaring they will abstain from “sexual intimacy that violated the sacredness of marriage between a man and a woman.”
The story says that accrediting Trinity Western University is controversial due to the “impact of the covenant on the lesbian and gay community.”
The issue of accreditation will be considered by the Law Society of Upper Canada on April 10 and 24.
The story takes note of the Ontario Bar Association’s official position on the issue, saying OBA Council passed a motion “calling on the LSUC to adopt a ‘non-discrimination requirement’ for all current and future law programs.
