The OCJ has released a new Notice to the Profession and the Public detailing when criminal trials and preliminary hearings will resume at select OCJ locations. These matters will resume on August 17, 2020 in College Park, Timmins, and Peterborough, and on August 24, 2020 in Burlington.
The OCJ has also issued a new Practice Direction under Rules 4.5 and 5 of the Criminal Rules of the OCJ. This Practice Direction details the procedure whereby accused persons who (a) are represented by counsel, and (b) who have filed an Enhanced Designation of Counsel may have their matters adjourned without the accused person needing to appear in-person.
