OCJ July 2 Update

The OCJ issued a Notice to the Profession and the Public re Criminal Case Management Appearances and Setting Trial and Preliminary Inquiry Dates that provides a further update regarding court operations in the Ontario Court of Justice, relating to criminal case management appearances and setting criminal trial and preliminary inquiry dates. The Court will resume setting criminal trial and preliminary inquiry dates on July 6th, using the procedure and timeline set out in the Notice. 

The OCJ issued a Notice to the Profession and the Public re Criminal Case Management Appearances and Setting Trial and Preliminary Inquiry Dates that provides a further update regarding court operations in the Ontario Court of Justice, relating to criminal case management appearances and setting criminal trial and preliminary inquiry dates. The Court will resume setting criminal trial and preliminary inquiry dates on July 6th, using the procedure and timeline set out in the Notice. The setting of all trial and preliminary inquiry dates will be done remotely using a combination of an online form (available here) and a trial scheduling conference with the Trial Coordinator’s office.

The OCJ has updated Criminal Case Adjournment Dates for Out-of-Custody Accused.

The OCJ has issued a brief addition to the June 17th Scheduling of Family Matters notice that provides that all matters not included in the June 17th notice will be adjourned 8 to 12 weeks, unless permitted to proceed in chambers or a judge has ordered that the matter proceed either remotely or in person.

The OCJ also updated its Notice to Counsel/Paralegals and the Public Re: Provincial Offences Act Matters which supersedes previously announced notices. Until further notice, no in-person POA proceedings will be conducted until September 14th. Between July 6th and September 11th, remote judicial pre-trials and remote early resolution guilty pleas may be held.
