The Federal Court has issued a new Practice Direction that supersedes all prior COVID-19 practice directions. This Practice Direction provides an update regarding the Court’s operations and outlines new requirements and protocols for the electronic filing of documents. The Federal Court will be closing its facilities in Ontario and Quebec until further notice. Accordingly, the Court will not hold in-person hearings in Ontario and Quebec until at least February 12, 2021, although there may be exceptions on a case-by-case basis. The Court will conduct its operations in Ontario and Quebec by remote means (e.g. video conference, teleconference, and in writing). In the rest of Canada, the Court's operations will continue as they have been over the past few months, although drop boxes will now be deployed at Registry counters for the filing of paper documents. For more information, please see the new Practice Direction.
