Lawyers, Legal and Justice System Professional services are essential businesses

  • March 23, 2020

Earlier today, Monday, March 23, the Ontario Government ordered the mandatory closure of all non-essential workplaces, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24th at 11:59 p.m. This closure will be in effect for 14 days with the possibility of extending this order as the situation evolves.

The Government has now released the list of essential businesses available here. Pursuant to Numbers 61 and 65 on the list of essential businesses, professional and social services that support the legal and justice system and professional services including lawyers are deemed to be essential businesses. Essential businesses are being asked to put into place any and all measures to safeguard the wellbeing of their employees.

We recognize that many of our member law firms and lawyers have heeded the requests from the Governments to require that their workforces work from home as have many of our members’ clients. During these difficult times, the OBA is here to help. Please review our Quick Guide to Special Services.
