Career Planning and Financial Management for Lawyers

For many professionals, planning the next career move and managing debt and other finances can seem like a daunting task. Instead, we often choose to put planning on the back burner and resign to letting things sort themselves out. In an effort to make the task a little less daunting for young lawyers, the Ontario Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division East hosted a program on November 17, 2016 entitled “Career Planning and Financial Management for Lawyers”.

This past year has been an important one regarding the workplace violence and harassment provisions of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act with developments relating to: (i) an employer’s obligations and duties; (ii) the release of one of the first decisions regarding charges laid under the workplace violence provisions of the OHSA; and (iii) the first convictions and fines levied against employers for failure to comply with the workplace violence provisions of the Act.

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan have made it much easier to argue that employees are entitled to compensation for bonuses during the notice period, regardless of what may be contained in an employment contract or bonus plan.
