in December 2016, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice released Patel v. Sheth, the next in a series of cases sprouting from the 2012 recognition of a tort of intrusion upon seclusion. While Patel is deeply planted in a messy matrimonial context the analysis and finding of an invasion of privacy is worth addressing from a business risk perspective as well.

New Reporting Obligations for Ontario Corporations: What You Need to Know

The Forfeited Corporate Property Act, 2015 and related amendment to the Business Corporations Act (Ontario) and the Corporations Act (Ontario) are set to come into force. They will, among other things, require business and not-for-profit corporations incorporated or continued into Ontario to maintain a register of their "ownership interests in land in Ontario".

Last week, I topped my list of nerve-wracking, new-lawyer moments when, heart pounding, I telephoned the Honourable Claire L'Heureux-Dubé, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada from 1987 to 2002 and the second woman in Canadian history to be appointed to that position. I was calling to see if Justice L’Heureux-Dubé would speak with me about her experience receiving the OBA's Women Lawyers Forum's Award of Excellence in 1996, its inaugural year.
