Older Adults Should Know the Rights that Protect Them
The Ontario Bar Association is stepping up to provide critical legal information this month – Seniors’ Month. These free online information sessions being held in regions across the province are designed to help seniors, families and caregivers learn more about the rights and responsibilities of older adults and those who care for them.
OBA member lawyers with expertise in the needs and unique legal issues of older adults will discuss a variety of timely topics, including legal remedies for financial abuse of seniors, capacity concerns, and the importance of powers of attorney.
“We know that our parents and grandparents can be vulnerable these days, so these sessions – which provide an increased understanding of the laws in place that protect the rights and safeguard the well-being, of older adults – can offer a bit of comfort and power,” says Amy MacAlpine, chair of the OBA’s Elder Law executive. “The OBA is always looking to find new ways to connect members to their communities, and this is just one way we can provide vital legal information to the people who need it.”
To join one of these online sessions – including one in Tamil – please register directly with the host using the contact info provided below.
