Feminist Legal Analysis

Whether it’s debating the impact of legislation on women, keeping up-to-date on legal analysis that takes the law beyond traditional interpretations, or hearing from other women about how to establish a law practice that reflects your views and interests, this Section provides a fresh perspective on all aspects of the law. Practitioners, academics and students - of diverse multi-racial backgrounds - share ideas in a collegial atmosphere.

This Section also plays a major role in advising the OBA and government on the proposed and existing laws on women, and making recommendations for legal change with a social justice focus. Make contacts and a personal contribution that will enrich both your professional and personal life.

This Section's Commitment to Equality Award was created to recognize significant contributions made by feminist lawyers and activists to equality rights in our society. Past recipients include Madam Justice Claire L'Heureux-Dubé, Doris Anderson, Anne Derrick (now Judge Anne Derrick of the Nova Scotia Provincial Court), Michele Landsberg, Mary Eberts, Linda Silver Dranoff (our founding Chair) and Dr. Ursula Franklin.
