On September 25, 2025, Chief Justice Morawetz gave his remarks for the annual Opening of the Courts, focusing on the current activities at the Superior Court, as well as plans for the future. These plans are based on a 5-year strategic plan comprised of 5 pillars:
- Modernizing the operation of the court
- Improving the court’s ability to deliver timely justice;
- Streamlining processes to enhance and improve access to justice;
- Sharing more information and conducting more outreach to the media and public to build Ontarians’ trust and confidence in the judicial system; and,
- Continue to advocate for safer and more secure courthouses across the province.
Among other topics discussed, His Honour addressed a significant modernization project is underway to launch one integrated seamless platform across all areas of law and for all users. The first phase of this digital transformation, which will roll out after Thanksgiving weekend for all Family and Civil matters, including contested Estates matters, is the Ontario Courts Public Portal (OCPP), a case information system for the Superior Court and the Court of Justice. This new portal will allow parties and legal representatives to file documents with the court, search for cases and upcoming events, check the status of filings, and view case information. The court is also improving its technology, with at least 50% of the Superior Court’s courtrooms in each region projected to be equipped with the necessary technology by the end of 2026.
