As the 2024-2025 term comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what’s been a dynamic and rewarding year for the OBA Health Law Section.
This year, we were proud to offer a range of engaging and timely educational programs, all chaired by dedicated members of our section. Highlights included:
- Demystifying Legal Challenges Relating to Trans and Non-Binary Healthcare – a thoughtful discussion on inclusivity and legal considerations in accessing care
- Navigating Parallel Proceedings – a practical look at managing overlapping legal processes
- Essentials in Practice Management – key insights for running a successful health law practice
We also continued our popular “Keeping Up with Health Law” call-in series, where members tune in to hear about recent and important cases in health law. This series has become a staple for staying current, and we’re excited to bring it back in September 2025.
We closed the year on a high note by presenting the Susan Hilary Davidson Memorial Award of Excellence in Health Law to Valerie Wise of Wise Health Law. Valerie’s contributions to the field are inspiring, and we were thrilled to recognize her achievements.
If you’ve ever thought about getting more involved with the OBA, joining a section that aligns with your interests is a fantastic way to start. It’s an opportunity to help shape the programming and content that lawyers across Ontario rely on—and a great way to connect with others in your field.
As always, you get out of the OBA what you put in. So if you’re interested, we encourage you to join a section and be part of the conversation.
Here’s to another great year ahead!
- Sari Feferman, Chair, and Victoria Brennan, Vice-Chair, OBA Health Law Section
