Kira Clarke
Biography
Kira Clarke is a bilingual (English/French) advocate with extensive litigation experience before all levels of court, administrative tribunals, and in arbitral proceedings. She currently serves as in house counsel for the Region of Durham, where she practices in the areas of Labour and Employment and Aboriginal Law. Kira is deeply committed to the advancement of the legal profession and has demonstrated that commitment through consistent and longstanding involvement with the Ontario Bar Association. She has served on multiple Section Executives, Committees, Subcommittees, and Council. Outside of practice and professional service, Kira enjoys hiking, biking, and exploring Canada’s natural landscapes.
Oksana Romanov
Biography
I am a criminal lawyer with work experience in prosecuting Criminal Code offences and defending individuals. I also served with distinction as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. I hold the Juris Doctor degree, with distinction, from the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University. I have a Masters in Communication from the State University of New York at Albany, where I studied as the recipient of the U.S. Fulbright Fellowship, one of the most prestigious academic scholarships for graduate students internationally.
Adil Abdulla
Biography
Adil is a lawyer at Sotos, working on class actions, public interest litigation, and commercial litigation. His current cases include claims against governments for systemic discrimination against Indigenous children and students with disabilities, claims against Google for anticompetitive conduct in AdTech, and claims against McKinsey for enabling the opioid crisis. He has published textbook chapters on civil procedure; peer-reviewed articles on class actions, securities law, competition law, and legal theory; and shorter pieces on intellectual property, franchise law, and legal ethics. He has also lectured on privilege, privacy law, and consumer protection law. He is currently the Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Civil Litigation section and on the Young Advocates Standing Committee of The Advocates’ Society.
Maryama Farah
Biography
I'm an internally trained lawyer going through my NCA requirements. I've spent the bulk of my career working in legal non-profit environments focused on affirming rights for indigenous communities. I'm privileged to have been able to work with indigenous peoples from my own nomadic group as well as forest and fishing communities to establish their rights to secure tenure over their ancestral lands, negotiate access and benefit sharing agreements with multinational proponents, and government actors. My work centered around large infrastructure development, mining and energy with a focus on just energy transitions and cross-border grid development. Regulatory compliance, contracts, legislative drafting, negotiation and legal education for Aboriginal, environmental, and corporate practice areas are my comfort zone. I'm excited to marry the experience I have with the education received at Osgoode Hall to make me an even better, more capable lawyer.
