Justice Bonnie Warkertin, the Regional Senior Justice of the Northwest Region, has issued a Notice to the Profession for Court Operation in the SCJ of Northwest Region regarding new temporary operations due to the Thunder Bay courthouse closure. The Notice outlines that the SCJ will be moving its operations to a temporary space at the Choice Hotel at 277 Camelot Street in Thunder Bay, with a target date for opening on November 2, 2020. Choice Hotel was the former site of the SCJ, where the ballroom will used as a courtroom, and there remain jury boxes and the judges’ dais in place for SCJ use. Most matters will continue to occur remotely, and the Choice Hotel will be primarily used for criminal matters that require in-person attendance, with a limited number of in-person civil and family hearings.
