City residential street with buildings, houses and trees. Text on the Image Facing Eviction? Lawyers can Help

Eviction Help: The Tenant-Lawyer Connection Portal

Members across Ontario have told us they want to help respond to challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on residential tenants who are facing eviction for non-payment of rent.

To help facilitate that, the OBA has created a pop-up initiative, delivered under the auspices of the Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario (ACTO), called Eviction Help: The Tenant-Lawyer Connection Portal (TLCP). The TLCP opens a virtual space where volunteer lawyers can offer their services free of charge to residential tenants, who:

  1. Are facing eviction for non-payment of rent, and
  2. Have a hearing scheduled before the Landlord and Tenant Board.

Participating lawyers offer to provide 30-minutes of free legal summary advice. The advice will involve a discussion about the tenant’s situation and legal options.
