International Women’s Day 2020 35th Anniversary of Sections 15: How Far We’ve Come, How Far We Need To Go

Our program features a number of prominent speakers and will focus on the 35th anniversary of the coming into force of Section 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Our featured speakers will provide a historical perspective on the origins of Section 15 of the Charter, comment on its evolution, and identify how these rights might evolve in the future. We will also hear about the use of the Ontario Human Rights Code as a tool to promote equality rights. Finally, the audience will also hear about the personal experience of a female Justice of the Ontario Superior Court.

Our evening presenters include:

  • Linda Silver Dranoff, Toronto family law lawyer (retired), writer, activist and 2012 Recipient of the Order of Canada
  • Dr. Kim Stanton, Partner, Goldblatt Partners and Senior Fellow, Massey College, University of Toronto
  • Renu Mandhane, Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission
  • Madam Justice Shaun O’Brien, Ontario Superior Court of Justice

Registration: 5:00 pm
Program: 5:30-7:15 pm
Reception: 7:15-8:15 pm

Program will take place at the Lamont Learning Centre and the reception will follow in Convocation Hall at the Law Society of Ontario - Osgoode Hall, 130 Queen St. W, Toronto.
