Feminist Legal Analysis Section Honours Mary Lou Fassel

On October 2nd, 2012, the Feminist Legal Analysis Section of the OBA awarded long time feminist and women’s equality rights activist, Mary Lou Fassel, with the OBA Award of Excellence in the Promotion of Women's Equality.

As I consider the word feminist, I’d like to acknowledge two trail blazers who died in the past year: Madame Justice Mabel Van Camp, the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court of Ontario, died April 19, 2012. She was 91.

Farewell Madeleine Parent: Her obituaries described her as “one of those radical, uppity women that made people in power nervous” and as having “une volonté de fer et un collier de perles” (“an iron will and a pearl necklace”).
