INTRODUCTION

New federal Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations (the “Regulations”) are set to come into force as of January 1, 2021, alongside Bill C-65, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code (harassment and violence), the Parliamentary Employment and Staff Relations Act and the Budget Implementation Act, 2017, No. 1 (Bill 65).

The Regulations, which support Bill 65 by replacing Part XX of the Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and parts of two other regulations, set out federally-regulated employers’ obligations under the Canada Labour Code (the “Code”) to investigate, record, report, prevent, and provide training with respect to workplace harassment and violence.
