Todd J. McCarthy, recipient of the Ontario Bar Association Award for Excellence in Insurance Law 2021 (Regional), was called to the bar in 1989 and since that time he has continually dedicated himself to advocacy, primarily as defence counsel.
Todd is an intrepid and passionate advocate. The complete body of his contribution to the development of the common law is impressive in terms of substantive complexity, breadth, volume and scope.
Todd is perhaps best known for his skills as a capable and fearless trial counsel. Over the course of Todd’s career, he has appeared as counsel in over 120 jury and non-jury trials. Todd’s work has resulted in hundreds of reported decisions, spanning the areas of civil procedure, evidence and insurance law.
Todd was certified as a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation in 1996. He has served as a deputy judge of the Small Claims Court from 2002 to 2011. In addition, he has previously served on boards of directors of a number of professional and philanthropic organizations.
