TORONTO – The Ontario Bar Association has created a new practice section that will focus its education and advocacy efforts on improving the experience of children and youth in the justice system.

This afternoon, the government released the mandate letters that the Premier sends to each minister outlining her expectations of that Minister during the mandate.

Orlando Da Silva, president of the Ontario Bar Association, was recently interviewed by Paul and Carol Motts, hosts of the popular radio program The Motts which is broadcast in Toronto on NewsTalk1010 as well as about a half dozen other radio stations across Ontario.

The writer, himself a lawyer who suffers from depression, says his fellow lawyers sometimes are stereotypically expected to show “invincibility” because of the adversarial legal culture.

The Dispute Resolution Officer (DRO) project operates in Barrie, Brampton, Durham, Hamilton, Milton, Newmarket and Toronto. The DRO project provides family litigants with an early evaluation of their case by a neutral third party for purposes of facilitating settlement and narrowing the issues in dispute. In locations where the DRO program is offered, the initial conference on a Motion to Change is before a DRO rather than a judge.
