  • 28 octobre 2021

Program Date:  Wednesday, May 25, 2022.

Expressions of Interest Due: Monday, December 20, 2021.

Are you passionate about human rights law? Do you want to raise your profile by speaking at the OBA?

We are looking for expressions of interest from human rights practitioners to present papers at our upcoming Annual Update on Human Rights professional development event, hosted by the Constitutional, Civil Liberties & Human Rights, Administrative Law and Labour & Employment Law sections.

We are interested in assembling a diverse group of speakers to present at the conference. As such, we encourage submissions from members of equity-seeking groups.

Proposals should focus on practical approaches to dealing with discrimination and harassment, remedies, substantive legal developments and practice/procedural developments at the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Canadian Human Rights Commission and Tribunal. We encourage you to consider innovative delivery methods for the presentation at the conference, and detail this in your proposal.

Some topic examples include:

  • substantive developments in human rights law and practice;
  • procedural considerations in human rights litigation;
  • human rights law in the courts, including appellate review;
  • damages and other remedies;
  • human rights policies and compliance considerations; and
  • ethical or professionalism challenges.

Expressions of interest are due by 5:00pm on Monday, December 20th, 2021.  Your expression of interest should be no longer than 500 words, and should include three proposed topics. Please also provide a short biography. Joint submissions are permitted. Please direct your expression of interest and any inquiries to Inna Koldorf at ikoldorf@millerthomson.com.

Selections will be made from the submissions received prior to the above-noted due date. Submissions received after this time will not be eligible for consideration. Selected presenters will be contacted by February 4, 2022. Each selected presenter is required to submit a substantive paper by no later than April 29, 2022.
