Carding has been a hot topic in the media in recent months; however, this is just one of many intersecting issues for the rights of youth when it comes to policing and public space.

In a landmark ruling released on January 26, 2016, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal found that the Canadian government is racially discriminating against 163,000 First Nations children and their families by providing flawed and inequitable child welfare services (“FNCFS Program”) and failing to implement Jordan’s Principle to ensure equitable access to government services available to other children.

The Children in Limbo Task Force, through its membership of individuals representing different disciplines and professions, work to improve the lives of children and youth in contact with, receiving services from, or in the care of the child welfare system. The Task Force recently made submission to the Government, Ministry of Children and Youth Services, regarding the Legislative review of the Child and Family Services Act.
