Description

Ecojustice is building the case for a better earth.

Acting on the fundamental idea that effective laws can protect the planet and hold those in power to account, for more than 30 years, Ecojustice lawyers have represented community groups, non-profits, Indigenous communities, and individual Canadians on the frontlines of the fight for environmental justice – free of charge.

As Canada’s largest environmental law charity, Ecojustice helps people take governments and polluters to court, expose illegal practices and shape new laws to meet the urgency of the climate and ecological crises. Ecojustice continues to take on precedent-setting cases that have the potential to force policy shifts and strengthen Canada’s environmental laws.

Ecojustice is seeking a passionate, inclusive and values-based leader for the position of Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead Ecojustice into its next exciting chapter - maximizing impact in the fight for a healthy environment for all. Aligning with key themes of Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Reconciliation, the Executive Director will lead Ecojustice in integrating core activities, strengthening legal programs, ensuring sustainable growth, and advocating for systemic change.

The Executive Director will be a spokesperson, an activist, a relationship builder, and a leader in Ecojustice’s championing their clients and advocating for environmental law reform.

As the ideal candidate, you will bring a bachelor’s degree combined with a minimum of 8 years of executive leadership experience in progressive non-profit or charitable organizations. Candidates with relevant experience in government and private sectors are welcome. Strong business insight and knowledge of public policy making are required, while knowledge of environmental law and delivery of legal services is highly desirable. A strong background in fundraising, advocacy and governance will round out your credentials. A law degree and being a member in good standing with a provincial Law Society is considered an asset.

As a growing organization with 90 employees, Ecojustice works from offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa and Halifax. Named one of Charity Intelligence’s Top 100 charities in 2021, Ecojustice is proud to be 100 percent donor-funded and powered by a growing community of nearly 200,000 supporters strong.
