The Opportunity:
Reporting to Director, Corporate Services & Associate General Counsel the primary responsibility of Legal Counsel will be to Assist General Counsel & Associate General Counsel with various legal matters including corporate, litigation, health, privacy, compliance, and any other related legal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with autonomy in your practice and collaborate with colleagues including lawyers and internal operational teams
- Support AgeCare colleagues from Support Services, Clinical, IT, Finance and HR teams with assistance on the following matters:
- Support contract drafting, negotiation and review of commercial agreements
- Provide regulatory advice on patient care laws
- Advise HR on employee relations matters
- Advise on legal questions that arise during site operations
- Conduct research on regulatory matters and new developments in health laws
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements for all business divisions at all stages and escalate to Associate General Counsel, if required
- Advise on various legal areas, including contracting, risk management, privacy and data requests and regulatory issues
- Give accurate legal direction to the office staff on all matters that influence the organization
- Deal with the compliance, risk management for in-house counsel and other legal administrator’s groups
- Attend official level meetings identified with the future aspect of the organization
- Ensure legal compliance for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activities
- Create vendor contracts and contractual work agreements
- Manage complex issues with different stakeholders and powers

Qualifications and Skills:
- A Juris Doctor degree or LLB and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario and licensed to practice law in Ontario.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ legal experience in general corporate and commercial law (at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a sophisticated organization) with strength in transactional work and regulatory matters
- Strong prioritization skills, ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Team player with a passion for collaboration and patient care
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualification
- Experience in health law or healthcare regulatory matters would be considered an asset
- Licensed to practice law in British Columbia or Alberta would be an asset
Knowledge and Abilities
- Excellent legal research, analytical and drafting skills
- A high degree of flexibility and can readily adapt to changes in organizational priorities and plans
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
