Our Ottawa office is seeking to grow its construction law and disputes resolution practice. Our team strategically advises and represents a range of industry stakeholders, including owners, developers, contractors, suppliers and builders, throughout the entire lifecycle of a project – from contract negotiation and preparation, tender issues and general construction matters, through to litigation and arbitration. We have extensive experience negotiating, mediating, arbitrating and litigating construction disputes such as construction liens, trust claims, delay claims, surety bond claims, construction insurance claims, and architect’s and engineer’s errors and omissions.
We are currently seeking to add to the existing strength of our team by bringing in a mid-level associate with strong experience or interest in this space. This presents an incredible opportunity to join an established Canadian law firm, while working in a close, collegial and collaborative environment that is both professionally and personally rewarding.
The ideal candidate will possess an LL.B or JD degree and will also have:
- 3 to 7 years of related private practice or in-house experience, including familiarity with, or a willingness to learn, document management platforms, such as Axcelerate, and some knowledge of the Ontario Construction Act and/or lien legislation in other provinces;
- exceptional client service, interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and a willingness to learn and take initiative;
- a technical, IT-focused and ‘paperless’ practice;
- demonstrated commercial acumen and a pragmatic, business focused outlook; and
- a hard-working, team-centric and passionate approach.
While not required, bilingualism is viewed as an asset, and we will also consider applicants that are looking to have a part-time or other alternative practice.
