Fine and Deo is a leading condominium law firm providing counsel to hundreds of condominium corporations in the GTA.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Legal Assistant or Law Clerk to provide full legal administrative assistance for a Senior Lawyer with a Commercial-Construction Litigation practice.  The position is a full-time permanent position.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Document preparation - preparing, editing and formatting correspondence and legal documents, both corporate and litigation (pleadings, factums, briefs, etc.).
  • File management - managing large and complex files, developing, maintaining and utilizing an orderly filing and retrieval process to ensure ease of reference to paper and electronic records.
  • Administrative management - assisting in the management of the lawyer’s practice, including calendar management, bring forwards, client meetings and hearings.
  • Account management - assisting in the preparation tracking and management of accounts and dockets.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Education

The successful candidate must have the following education, experience and demonstrated skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree, and/or successful completion of a post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a legal assistant or law clerk position.
  • Advanced technical skills in Microsoft Word (with emphasis on styles and formatting), Microsoft Excel, PCLaw, Teraview, Worldox, and ACL.
  • Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, and familiarity with mediation/arbitration procedures and administrative tribunal procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of business and legal terminology.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and desire to provide high quality, accurate work product.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to liaise with lawyers, clients, and court officers.
  • Exceptional time management, organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work under pressure, complete tasks with speed and accuracy, and the ability to multi-task in response to changing situations.
  • Excellent judgement and the ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • High client service orientation.
  • Strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently, take initiative and be resourceful.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work overtime.
