We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill the role of Corporate Legal Counsel.   In your new role, you will support the Senior Leadership of Sodexo Canada in all legal matters regarding contracts, new contract review and Human Resources legal issues.

In your role working with Labour and Employment you will be required to:
  • Advise management on a wide variety of employment related matters including wage and hour laws (including laws regarding minimum wage and overtime), employee terminations, employee claims for workplace injury compensation, union relations and arbitrations under the collective bargaining agreements. 
  • Manage outside counsel in the defense of employment litigation, cases alleging Human Rights Act violations in Provincial and National tribunals.
  • Update Leadership team on significant Provincial and Legislative developments with Employment law and issues.
  • Draft and advise on hiring subcontract arrangements between Sodexo and our Indigenous Business Partners.
Within our Operations your expertise will be required to support: 
  • Draft contracts, advise Business executives and Field team on a wide range of legal matters, aid in the resolution of issues and facilitate business transactions.
  • Responsibilities may include the negotiation and drafting related to the following matters:
  • Client contracts and transaction agreements
  • Equipment leases
  • Finance leases
  • Confidentiality Agreements
  • Consulting Agreements
  • Promissory Notes
  • Procurement Agreements
  • Default Letters
  • Demand Letters
  • Research and analyze legal issues as needed throughout the Operations Group
  • Provide Legal Counsel to the Business Executives on Privacy Laws and data transfer issues
Growth and Development:
  • A minimum of 5 – 8 years of similar legal experience
  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school in Canada
  • Licensed to practice law in the Province of Ontario
  • In depth knowledge of as well as working experience with Employment and Labour laws applicable to the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec
  • In-depth knowledge of Human Rights Act laws in the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec as well as working knowledge of such law in other Provinces nationally. 
  • You possess a general understanding of contract Law
  • Working knowledge of laws surrounding rights of Indigenous workers and employment
  • You possess strong research and legal writing abilities
  • You are an analytical thinker with excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • You are able to thing strategically and provide leadership when needed 
  • You work independently and are a problem solver with a high degree of resourcefulness
  • You are able to quickly identify and assess issues and provide legally sound recommendations consistent with good business practice and reason
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively, foster relationships with individuals at all levels
  • You are able to hand and manage high volume of work in a short turn around period
  • Excellent MS office skills (Word, Excel and other MS Office)
  • You must be flexible to travel across Canada as required and able to travel to the US
  • You must be bilingual English and French both oral and written.
