The government has once again invoked the notwithstanding clause so that their legislation prohibiting a strike and unilaterally imposing contract terms will operate even if it violates the rights protected by sections 2, 7 and 15 of the Charter. These include the rights to free speech, association, and peaceful assembly, the right not to be deprived of life, liberty or security of the person except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice and equality rights.

The Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, has appointed Justice Change to the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario in Milton. Justice Chang practiced commercial litigation with a focus on complex corporate and commercial disputes, construction and employment matters. He has also volunteered with the Coach Advisor Network and Articling Mentorship program.

he Honourable David Lametti, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, has appointed Justice Rahman to the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario in Brampton. Justice Rahman was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice (Brampton) in 2016 and prior to that he worked several years as a federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice and the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

Justice Agarwal has been a distinguished class actions practitioner and partner at Bennett Jones LLP. He has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto and a co-author of Class Actions Law and Practice. In addition, he is a past president of the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto and First Vice President of the Ontario Bar Association.
