CANADA’S LARGEST LEGAL CONFERENCE KICKS OFF IN TWO WEEKS

January 22, 2018 (TORONTO) - The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) hosts Canada’s largest annual legal gathering from February 6-10, 2018. Now in its 43rd year, OBA’s Institute 2018 is a premium Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event for Ontario lawyers in every practice area with more than 30 programs and networking events.

“The OBA Institute attracts the best and brightest of the legal profession to share expertise and explore the key issues shaping law today. As an added bonus, the excellent programming can fulfill all your CPD needs, so there is no more last-minute scrambling in December to find CPD programs to meet the Law Society of Ontario’s annual requirements," says Jeff Percival, Co-Chair of OBA’s Institute Committee. “Institute is not only the crown jewel of legal educational events, it also provides an array of networking opportunities like receptions and social events where you can catch up with friends or colleagues in your practice area, talk shop or just enjoy sharing a laugh,” adds Co-Chair Marcia Oliver.

Institute is expected to bring together more than 2,000 of Ontario’s lawyers, judges, law professors and law students.

The following are just a few of the programs aimed to address current issues that impact a broad range of practice areas within the legal industry:

Blockchain, Smart Contracts & AI: Legal Challenges and Opportunities in Emerging Technologies

Emerging Risks in Health Law (including):

  • Opioid Panel: Assessing Risks for Patients and Prescribing Physicians
  • Current Issues: Medical Assistance in Dying

Advancing Reconciliation: Review of Recent Key Decisions and what Deconstructing the Current Colonial Legal Structure Could Mean

How to Survive and Thrive in the Age of Digital Litigation

The Ontario Bar Association, a branch of the Canadian Bar Association, is the largest voluntary legal association in Ontario and represents more than 16,000 members from across the province.
