Ontario Bar Association Wins International Award in Legal Education

July 25th, 2017 (TORONTO) - The Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA) has awarded The Ontario Bar Association one of only 18 annual awards granted to competitors representing more than 300 organizations.

An Award of Outstanding Achievement was given to the OBA for the 2017 ACLEA’s Best Awards, Public Interest category.

ACLEA members are professionals in the fields of continuing legal education and legal publishing. Its annual ACLEA’s Best Awards are highly competitive and winning projects represent the highest level of achievement for the staff and volunteers involved.

The program titled, Financial Abuse of the Older Client: Practical Legal Strategies to Prevent and Respond to the Exploitation of Seniors was developed by the OBA’s Professional Development team and Toronto-based family lawyer Steven Benmor in response to the growing issue and the very important role of lawyers in addressing it. More than 100 lawyers took part in this CPD program live, while many others continue to purchase the archived version.  Participants left the program equipped with the right skills and tools to recognize the signs of financial abuse, to protect clients from it in a wide range of financial transactions and to seek remedies for such abuse.
