Lawyers from both sides of the border meeting in Toronto

TORONTO –  The Ontario Bar Association is very pleased to welcome United States Consul General Jim Dickmeyer to the Ontario-New York Legal Summit.

Dickmeyer is a highly-experienced career diplomat who has been the U.S. Consul General stationed in Toronto since 2012. He will take part in a special plenary panel on the evolving practice of international business law on Friday, March 28, starting at 3:15 p.m.

The second-ever Ontario-New York Legal Summit is an opportunity for lawyers from both sides of the Canada-U.S. border to keep abreast or cross-border legal issues in order to both serve their clients better and to increase their own opportunities for business development.

The summit will present panels covering issues such as cross-border taxation, cross-border financing transactions, multijurisdictional class litigation, alternate dispute resolution and resources, mining and energy.

There will also be opportunities for lawyers to meet informally to network and discuss common issues related to the cross-border practice of law.

About 150 lawyers took part in the inaugural summit in 2012 in Ontario alone and the sessions are eligible for CLE/CPD credit.

The bi-annual summit is jointly organized by the Ontario Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association in cooperation with the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada, the New York City Bar, and the American Bar Association Section of International Law.
