Law Society Name Change
Following October’s Convocation and the discussion on the name change, the Communications Steering Group is preparing to come back to Convocation on November 2 with options for a new name.

Four options have been developed based on the earlier research findings (report from last Convocation available here). These options are based on feedback from over 2,300 members and 1,000 members of the public.

As well, Convocation was interested in further research. To that end, all members will have received an email on October 13th with a link to a survey to indicate their preference on one of four options for a new name.  Members will have three days to respond, following which public input will be sought.  Please participate in the survey!

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion - Inclusion survey closes Oct. 16
OBA members are encouraged to participate in the Law Society’s Inclusion Survey before it closes on Monday, October 16.  Measuring our collective progress is key to the culture shift that will reduce barriers created by racism and discrimination in the profession. All survey responses are strictly confidential and anonymous.

Second Annual Access to Justice Week – Oct. 23 to 27
The Action Group on Access to Justice (TAG) is working with several partners to organize Ontario’s second annual Access to Justice Week from October 23 to 27. Participating in the week provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the justice system, the diverse people involved and the changes we can effect together. Last year, many productive insights and connections were made. This year, the program builds on that foundation with sessions about access to justice as it relates to mental health, technology, public legal education and the importance of community driven initiatives.
