Each year, the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association ("OBA") presents the Award for Excellence in Family Law, in memory of James G. McLeod. This year’s recipient is Cheryl Goldhart, Goldhart & Associates.
“The endorsements for Cheryl’s nomination gave her the highest praise. She is seen as representing the best in the family bar: dedicated, personable, caring and knowledgeable,” says Sharon Shore, OBA Family Law Section Chair. “Cheryl is considered a natural leader, a mentor, who is always willing to step up. Most recently she demonstrated her leadership by chairing the Dispute Resolution Officer program in Ontario. Cheryl exemplifies, in every measure, the principles for this award.”
The Award for Excellence in Family Law was created to recognize outstanding members of the OBA practising in the area of family law for their exceptional achievements, distinguished service, and contributions in the following areas:
- teaching of Family Law and practice
- taking tough cases forward and precedent setting cases, and/or involved in advancing the practice of alternative dispute resolution
- development of Family Law, including lecturing, scholarly writing, lobbying, and development of policy and family law legislation, including new directions involving inter-disciplinary and comprehensive approaches to dispute resolution
- enhancement of the practice of Family Law
- leadership in the Family Law Bar
