The Ontario Bar Association’s (“OBA”) submission to the Licence Appeal Tribunal regarding Rules 8, 9, 10, 14 and 16 of the Common Rules of Practice & Procedure was prepared by the Insurance Law Section of the OBA.

The Ontario Bar Association (OBA) appreciates the opportunity to provide this proactive submission to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (“WSIAT”) on the proposed changes to the pre-hearing process.

OINP offers a pathway towards permanent residence for foreign workers that have the professional and/or educational skills needed to succeed in, and contribute to, Ontario’s labour market. We offer the following comments based on our members’ knowledge of the applicable legal principles and practical experience. These comments are intended to improve fairness in the program, add clarity and consistency, as well as ensure that the program can be implemented in a manner that minimizes uncertainty.

Submission to the Civil Rules Committee on significant amendments to Rule 34 of the Rules of Civil Procedure.

The OBA ‘s submission on Bill 3 recommended that the Bill be amended to include “a lawyer employed by a municipality” within the list of individuals for whom a strong mayor’s powers respecting the municipality’s organizational structure are scoped.

The Ontario Bar Association continues to advocate for access to justice in all sectors and through this submission are proposing practical solutions to issues that are currently impeding access to clients incarcerated in Ontario’s Correctional Institutes.

The Ontario Bar Association’s Working Group on Neutral Diversity has released a report examining diversity in alternative dispute resolution settings and proposing recommendations about how it can be improved in Ontario. Efforts to increase diversity in arbitration and mediation have been ongoing in other countries, but the issue has largely gone unaddressed in Ontario.

The OBA provided this submission to the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development on the proposed amendments to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 relating to the exclusion of business and information technology consultants.

The OBA provided this submission to the Law Society of Ontario regarding mandatory minimum compensation for experiential training for lawyer licensing candidates

The OBA has been working with the SCJ Civil Working Group on ways to improve the efficient and effective use of digital hearings and applaud the SCJ for its ongoing work in this area. In addition to the work that the OBA is supporting before the SCJ Civil Working Group in this area, we hope that this submission provides some additional substantive feedback to assist with this matter.
