The OBA's Pension and Benefits Law section provides comments on the Ministry of Finance consultation regarding Superintendent consent for annuity purchases on wind-up & extended allocation of payments from the Pension Benefits Guarantee Fund.

The OBA Taxation section and the CBA/Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Joint Committee on Taxation prepared submissions on “Facilitating the Payment and Administration of the Land Transfer Tax under Section 3 of the Land Transfer Tax Act.”

The Charity and Not-for-Profit Law Executive comments on a regulation proposed by the Public Guardian and Trustee under the Charities Accounting Act permitting incorporated charities to pay directors for goods and services under certain conditions.

The OBA prepared a submission on Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017, for the Legislative Assembly's Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs, providing recommendations where additional legislative clarity is warranted.

The OBA recommends several changes that the Courts of Ontario can adopt by way of practice direction regarding books of authorities that will reduce costs of litigation, reduce waste/environmental impact, and streamline service/filing.

The Citizenship and Immigration Law Section wrote to the Minister of the Attorney General about concerns regarding the suspension of refugee and immigration legal aid services.

The OBA appreciates the opportunity to comment on potential amendments to the Wishart Act, including the Business Law Advisory Council's Fall and May Recommendations, the OBA's previous submissions, and provide further recommendations.

The OBA Pension and Benefits Law section made submissions on two regulatory proposals under Regulation 909 of the Pension Benefits Act (PBA). One proposal relates to administrative penalties, and the second to special orders by the Superientendent.

Following the introduction of Bill 134, the Real Property Law Section wrote to the Minister of Finance to comment on the implementation various Land Transfer Tax Act measures, including provisions relating to the non-Resident Specualtion Tax (NRST).

The Real Property Law Section wrote to the Minister of Finance about potential concerns with measures under the Land Transfer Tax Act, and in particular, the obligations of lawyers with regards to the non-resident speculation tax (NRST).
