Comments by OBA Estates Administration Tax Act Working group to the Ministry of Finance regarding the regulation made under the EATA. The submission includes technical comments and access to justice considerations.

The Ontario Bar Association (“OBA”) is pleased to provide this submission regarding its review and proposed amendments for improving Ontario’s Arthur Wishart Act (Franchise Disclosure), 2000 (the “proposed amendments”).

The Ontario Bar Association (“OBA”) appreciates the opportunity to provide comments to the Standing Committee on General Government (“the Committee”) in respect of Bill 171, Fighting Fraud and Reducing Automobile Insurance Rates Act, 2014 (“Bill 171” or “the Bill”), which was referred to the Committee on April 14, 2014.

The Ontario Bar Association appreciates the request to comment on the Ontario Securities Commission’s proposed disclosure requirements regarding the representation of women on boards and in senior management (the “Proposed Amendments”).

The Ontario Bar Association (“OBA”) appreciates the opportunity to make this submission to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs pertaining to Bill 20, Respect for Municipalities Act (City of Toronto), 2013 (“Bill 20”).

This submission was prepared by the OBA’s Construction and Infrastructure Law Section (“the Section”), which has over 450 members comprised of the leading barristers and solicitors involved in construction law issues. Members of the Section represent a broad cross-section of industry stakeholders, including owners, general contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers, lenders and insurers, government and homeowners.

Letter concerning Bill 83, Protection for Public Participation Act, 2013 which, as you are aware, was introduced by the government in June 2013.

The OBA is pleased that a Commission has been created to inquire into the adequacy of Case Management Masters’ remuneration. An independent process for remuneration of judicial officials has been recognized as one of the hallmarks of judicial independence. We would suggest that parity in remuneration between judicial officers exercising the same functions is another such indicator.

The Ontario Bar Association (“OBA”) appreciates the opportunity to provide comments to the Ministry of Finance (“the Ministry”) on its discussion paper Securing our Future: Strengthening Retirement Income in Ontario through Pooled Registered Pension Plans (“the Discussion Paper”), which lays out a framework for implementing pooled registered pension plans (“PRPPs”) in Ontario.
