SCJ: New Appointment

Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Arif Virani, has appointed Linda A. Shin to the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto. Justice Shin replaces Justice B.A. Allen who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective November 4, 2022.

Central South Region: New Time Requirements for Long Trial Sittings

The Superior Court of Justice has advised that, effective immediately, long trial sittings are reserved for matters longer than 20 days. The long trial sittings are now reserved for any trials that require 21 days or more. Any trials that are 20 days or fewer should be put to a local regular 4-week trial sittings.

Notice Regarding Administrative Dismissals in the Toronto Region

Regional Senior Justice Firestone has advised that, effective May 13, 2024, all consent or confirmed unopposed motions addressing the dismissal timelines under Rule 48.14 of the Rules of Civil Procedure, shall be brought by way of a motion in writing before an Associate Judge.
