The Superior Court of Justice has revised the Consolidated Provincial Practice Direction for Criminal Proceedings and the Trial Readiness Forms (18C1 and 18C2).

Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Arif Virani, has appointed Linda A. Shin to the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto. Justice Shin replaces Justice B.A. Allen who elected to become a supernumerary judge effective November 4, 2022.

On August 2, 2024, Ontario Regulation 322/24 was filed to amend the Rules of Civil Procedure, R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 194.

The Superior Court of Justice, Central South Region, has advised that judges will no longer be reviewing documents for an event unless those documents are uploaded to Case Center in accordance with Part 1 B of the Consolidated Provincial Practice Direction for Family Proceedings.

The Superior Court of Justice has advised that, effective immediately, long trial sittings are reserved for matters longer than 20 days. The long trial sittings are now reserved for any trials that require 21 days or more. Any trials that are 20 days or fewer should be put to a local regular 4-week trial sittings.

The Ontario Superior Court of Justice has released a Consolidated Practice Direction for the Central West Region, effective July 1, 2024.  For more information please see the Notice to the Profession and Parties.

On May 9, 2024, Order in Council 619/2024 was signed, proclaiming July 1, 2024 as the day on which section 1 of Schedule 3 of the Strengthening Safety and Modernizing Justice Act, 2023, S.O. 2023, c. 12, will come into force.

Regional Senior Justice Firestone has advised that, effective May 13, 2024, all consent or confirmed unopposed motions addressing the dismissal timelines under Rule 48.14 of the Rules of Civil Procedure, shall be brought by way of a motion in writing before an Associate Judge.

On April 25, 2024, two new regulations were filed to amend the court rules for civil court proceedings: O. Reg. 175/24 and O. Reg. 176/24.
