With the move to virtual hearings during COVID-19, Legal Aid Ontario recognizes bail hearings are taking significantly longer to prepare for and conduct.

The OCJ has revised its May 19th Notice to Counsel/Paralegals and the Public regarding Provincial Offences Act matters in the OCJ. Beginning on January 25, 2021:

In lights of the Ontario government’s new emergency orders, the OCJ has revised the COVID-19: Scheduling of Family Law Matters at the Ontario Court of Justice. The new Scheduling of Family Law Matters directive eliminates the reference to certain appearances being presumptively in person and waives the requirement to file sworn documents, beyond unsworn affidavits of service. Electronically signed documents are acceptable for filing.

MAG has learned that on Tuesday January 12, 2021, the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph (WDG) Public Health Unit has declared an outbreak at the Guelph Courthouse due to three positive cases with an epidemiological link occurring in the same work area within a 14-day period where all cases could have reasonably acquired their infection in the workplace.  View January 12th Memo for the Guelph Courthouse.

MAG has learned that two non-OPS people who work in the courthouses have tested positive for COVID-19. View January 12th Memo for the Brampton Courthouses at 7755 & 7765 Hurontario Street, Brampton.

With the government’s December 21, 2020 COVID-19 announcement, the Court recognizes that some counsel, parties, and justice participants may be unable to attend a courthouse in person.

MAG has learned that an OPS employee who works at the Brampton courthouse has tested positive for COVID-19. The person was last present on Friday, December 4th, 2020.
